Holding nothing back…

Archive for January 2008

Sunday evening about 8pm, my phone rings.  I don’t recognize the number, but it’s a local area code and I *am* on the board of our homeschool association, so I figured I had better go on and answer it.  The female voice on the other end of the line was *hysterical*!!  So much so that I literally did not recognize who it was and for a minute thought it was a wrong number.  Then she said *something* semi-coherently and I realized:  It’s my oldest daughter’s BEST FRIEND!!!  At this point, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that something catastrophic has happened, but still don’t know what yet.

I finally get her calmed down enough that I can understand what she is saying, only to find out that her father apparently lost his damn mind and assaulted her!!!!  Granted, I can understand his being angry with her after she *cussed* at him, but this was unreasonable and inappropriate.  He pulled her shoulder out of socket and messed up her leg (that she had injured in a car wreck a couple of months ago).  I cannot even begin to tell you how infuriated DH and I were!!!  We’d have been furious and saddened to hear of *ANY* kid being assaulted by her father, but *THIS* kid?!?!  She’s an absolutely AMAZING kid, intelligent, beautiful, respectful, talented…  Just amazing.  We’ve known her since she was 8 (as DH says, “since she was barely a popcorn fart” LOL), and anyone that has spent any time around her at all cannot help loving her.

We went and picked her up, and brought her to our house.  Because we believe this to be an isolated incident, we haven’t called CPS yet.  As long as her parents get help, we won’t.  He has to get anger management counselling and see a psychiatrist to get back on the medications he needs to help him.  If he won’t get the help he needs, then she needs to kick him to the curb.  Otherwise we’ll have no choice but to get CPS involved.

While he gets the help he needs, we have temporary guardianship of their daughter.  For now we are saying 90 days.  If it needs to go longer than that we can reevaluate.  If we have to go to court to make it permanent, we will.  But we will NOT allow her to be abused.

So far, he’s following through.  He went to the doctor yesterday and got back on some medications he had gone off of.  He’s still saying “If she had just done what I TOLD her, this wouldn’t have happened,” though.  Excuse me?!?!?  She’s a 14-year-old child!  It was not up to HER to diffuse the situation!  You’re the ADULT in the situation, ACT LIKE IT!!!

But at least getting back on his medication is progress.  Hopefully once it has time to get back into his system, he’ll be thinking more clearly and realize that no matter what his daughter had done, his reaction was inappropriate.  One step at a time.

Seems like it’s constant drama in my life.  One of my lifelong friends told me that we need new friends.  I’m beginning to think she’s right.  LOL  We seem to attract those who are “broken” somehow.

Oy vey!  If you don’t want your tv tied up for hours on end, every single day, listening to music that you may or may not like turned up as loud as you’ll allow, avoid this game at all costs!

And I thought Guitar Hero was bad!!!  Rock Band is actually WORSE because DH and all three kids can play at once!!  One on drums, one on guitar, one on bass, and one singing (and btw, none of my kids can sing, God love them!)…

Don’t get me wrong, there are some really good songs on here, including a few that I’d never heard before that I’ve since downloaded from iTunes!  BUT…  There are other songs that I would be perfectly happy if I never heard them again!  Of course, Guitar Hero was the same way.  LOL

Maybe it’s because I’m sick today that it is bothering me so much, but I just want my tv back!  ::::eyeroll::::

I hate hate hate hate hate being sick.  Especially when I have as much on my plate as I do right now.  Besides this blog, that I said up front I couldn’t guarantee how frequently I would update, DH and I homeschool our three children (ages 16, 11, and 8), am on the board of our homeschool association (and there’s been a couple of crises in the past week, leaving me the only one to handle/coordinate ALL Board business), and then there’s all the regular, boring, day-to-day stuff of just being a wife and mother.  Basically, like anyone else out there, I don’t have TIME to be sick!!!

But here I sit, with a fever, cough, sore throat, congestion, and all the good stuff that goes along with the common cold.  So far I don’t think it’s the flu because I haven’t got nausea, thank goodness!

All I want to do is crawl back in bed and sleep, but every time I lay down I start coughing again.  Tylenol Cold Multi-symptom is helping some, as are warm drinks; but I still feel like C-R-A-P.

Hope nobody else has this stuff.

I guess what they say is true:  Only the good die young.

Heath Ledger was found dead in his apartment this past Tuesday.  Apparently, his housekeeper had let herself in and begun cleaning after hearing Ledger snoring from his bedroom.  I guess his still being in bed when she got there wasn’t abnormal.  I can only imagine her horror at finding out later that Ledger had been laying there dying while she went about her routine in the next room.

While there were prescription drugs present in the apartment and a rolled-up $20 bill, there were no illegal drugs found and tests showed no drug residue on the bill.

I guess we’ll know more in a few weeks when the toxicology reports come back to the Medical Examiner.

There are conflicting reports about what Ledger’s mental health was like during his last weeks.  His family, of course, says that this has to be an accidental death, that Ledger would never have committed suicide.  Other reports are that Michelle Williams, Ledger’s ex-girlfriend and mother to his daughter, was worried about Ledger.

And of course, the scavengers were getting their bit *immediately* after his death.  Papparazzi were so prevelant at his SoHo apartment by the time his body was removed that police had put up barricades to keep them back.  Now, the Westboro Baptist Church in Kansas, classified as a hate group and monitored by the Anti-Defamation League, is planning to picket memorial services for Ledger in the U.S.  This is the same group that has been picketing the funerals of soldiers that died in Iraq folks!  I won’t give those idiots any more mention than that.

Rest in peace, Heath Ledger.  You were a talented actor, a gentle soul, and will be greatly missed.

To the surprise of nobody except maybe the tabloids, Britney Spears has apparantely lost it.  According to reports, she was hauled off to the hospital last night after a 3 hour standoff with FedEx’s bodyguards, the court appointed visitation monitor, and police because she had locked herself in a room with her youngest son, Jayden James, to avoid giving the boys back to FedEx after visitation.

Officers said that Britney appeared to be under the influence of “an unknown substance” (i.e. drugs), that she was incoherent and arguing with police in a way that “didn’t make sense,” but if she had a full-blown psychotic break it *could* appear to be drugs.  I mean, come on!  Does anyone *really* think that shaving your head, assaulting a car with an umbrella, and her alleged behavior at the OK! Magazine photo shoot are the behavior of a sane person?  Even a sane person on drugs?

I’m not making excuses for Ms. Spears.  Truth be told, I think she’s glorified “trailer trash” with more money than sense.  I think that even at her best, she borders on being a neglectful mother to those boys, and I think she is a media whore who enjoys all the attention from the papparazzi no matter how much she complains about it.  I just can’t help but wonder if she isn’t seriously, severely mentally ill.

Watching the Razorbacks get stomped at the Cotton Bowl made me want to cry.  It was painful.

I don’t know why there seems to be a jinx on the Razorbacks when it comes to bowl games, but there sure does seem to be one and I *REALLY* wish it would go away!

I was still pretty confident at halftime, even though my Razorbacks were down by 14 points.  They’ve come back to win from half time deficits before, more than once.

Had anyone predicted that the running back dominating this game would be Mizzou’s Tony Temple, I’d have said they were crazy!  Surely it had to be McFadden or Jones that would dominate.  Oh nooooooooooo.  Temple set a Cotton Bowl record with 281 rushing yards, while Mizzou’s defense held McFadden to a pathetic 105 yards.  This from a Heisman runner up who averaged 144 yards per game all year!

The Razorbacks intercepted the ball, only to fumble it, missed field goals, turned the ball over within *feet* of a TD, just had an all around terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad day.

Maybe they should move to Australia.
